Screen Printing

The Process
Screen printing is the process of using a photosensitive emulsion to create a stencil on a fine mesh screen through which ink is forced to form a customized decorative design. This is done by seperating your design into it's individual colors. A film positive of each color is then created on an acetate film. This film is applied to the screen and it is exposed to ultra-violet light. Each color in the design requires a seperate screen. (5 colors = 5 screens)

The UV light hardens the emulsion in the area of the stencil where no ink will pass during printing. The unharded portion of the emulsion is washed out with water and the stencil is created.
Art Requirements

Vector Art is art that is built (actually drawn) in a vector or object based program such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, Corel Draw or Macromedia Freehand. Each object in vector file can be selected and individually manipulated independently from the rest of the image.

Vector Art is the BEST to send us!

Common files extensions for this type of file include .ai, .eps, .cdr and .fla.

When providing such files, it is important to convert fonts to curves or create outlines for all text used. For a vector art file (i.e. Adobe Illustrator file) with no placed images resolution is not a concern.

Photographic Art (or photo realistic design), also known as Raster Art, is art that incorporates scanned in imagery, or art that is built in a pixel based program such as Photoshop, Fireworks or Photopaint.

Common file extensions for such files are .psd, .tif, .jpg, .gif and .png.

This includes any art built in a vector based program that also incorporates imported or placed photographic elements. In order to reproduce a photographic image, we require a file with a resolution of 300 dots (pixels) per inch or the actual photo.

Art created in word processing program, spreadsheet programs, or powerpoint is unacceptable.

Common file extensions for such files are .doc, .xls, and .ppt.

Vector art can pretty much be used as is. Raster Art nearly always needs some work and may incur an art charge.

Remember, the final design screen printed on your shirt is only as good as your artwork!

...but why worry about any of that?  Let our artists take your idea, do the art, and screen print it on a shirt you will be proud to wear!!
